Maxon August 2026 Updates at a Glance

Product Version Main Focus
Autograph 2026.1.0 CJK and vertical text, Edge Smoother, Vector Blur improvements
Red Giant 2026.5.1 Universe and Studio fixes
Redshift 2026.8.1 (2026.08) Host compatibility and integration fixes

Autograph 2026.1.0

Autograph 2026.1.0 introduces new tools and improvements for typography, compositing, and motion graphics. The update was released on August 12, 2026.

The biggest addition is native vertical text and CJK support, including vertical Japanese text, right-to-left column flow, and glyph-based ranges for animation. Autograph also improves text animation when combining CJK and Latin writing systems. These changes are particularly useful for anime, broadcast graphics, vertical advertising, and digital signage.

Other highlights include:

  • Edge Smoother: Smooths aliased edges on graphic elements, including hard-edged artwork used in anime compositing workflows.
  • Vector Blur Forward method: Produces more realistic motion blur when working with external vector passes, matted elements, and CG imagery.
  • Autograph Noise: Adds three loop-evolution options, while Voronoise is now animatable.
  • Panel UI: Selectable breadcrumbs provide easier access to project hierarchy items.

The release also includes fixes for rendering and export consistency, 3D workflows, USD imports, shapes, project and media handling, animation, audio, effects, UI behavior, localization, crashes, and hangs.

Red Giant 2026.5.1

Red Giant 2026.5.1 is a maintenance update released August 12, 2026, with fixes for Universe and Studio.

The update fixes an issue in Universe that prevented Chinese and Japanese characters from displaying correctly in After Effects 2026.2. It also resolves a Studio issue where older Capsules could produce an error when applied.

A known issue remains: the Japanese-language version of Trapcode Starglow displays in English.

Red Giant 2026.5.1 supports After Effects and Premiere Pro 2025 and 2026, DaVinci Resolve 19 and 20, Cinema 4D R26 and later, and other supported hosts listed in Maxon's system requirements.

Redshift 2026.8.1 (2026.08)

Redshift 2026.8.1 is a maintenance release that addresses compatibility, synchronization, and integration issues across several supported applications.

Key fixes include:

  • Cinema 4D: Fixed an issue that could prevent textures from loading when they first appeared in a scene.
  • Houdini: Added support for Houdini 21.0.792 and dropped support for 21.0.671.
  • Solaris/Hydra: Added support for Solaris 21.0.792 and dropped support for 21.0.671.
  • Redshift Live: Fixed visual artifacts in post effects caused by a regression introduced in Redshift 2026.8.0.
  • Vectorworks: Fixed an issue that could cause Redshift compound assets to go missing during synchronization.
  • Revit: Fixed an issue where only the first one or two Surface Scatter assets were preserved between Redshift sessions.

Which Maxon Update Is Relevant to Your Workflow?

The three August releases address different areas of Maxon's product lineup.

  • Autograph users: The update is particularly relevant if you work with CJK typography, vertical layouts, anime compositing, or motion graphics.
  • Red Giant users: The update is relevant to Universe users running After Effects 2026.2, particularly when working with Chinese or Japanese characters.
  • Redshift users: The update is worth reviewing if you use Cinema 4D, Houdini, Solaris, Vectorworks, or Revit and are affected by the listed integration or synchronization issues.
