RE:Vision Effects ReelSmart Motion Blur V7: What’s New? RE:Vision Effects ReelSmart Motion Blur V7: What’s New?

RE:Vision Effects ReelSmart Motion Blur (RSMB) V7 is now available with new motion-tracking controls and improvements to vector-based motion blur. The update covers RSMB Regular, RSMB Pro, and RSMB + Vectors, with changes that give users more control over motion analysis and better handling of large blurs and complex motion.

Here’s a look at what’s new in RSMB V7.

What’s New in ReelSmart Motion Blur V7?

RSMB Pro Boost Alpha for very large blurs
RSMB + Vectors Improved Depth Sorted Motion Blur

RSMB Regular V7 Adds Previous and Next Frame Tracking

RSMB Regular creates motion blur by tracking pixel movement between frames. With V7, users can choose to track the Previous Frame or Next Frame in supported host applications.

This gives artists another way to control which adjacent frame is used for motion analysis. It can be useful in shots where the visible image changes significantly from one frame to the next.

RSMB Regular supports:

After Effects, Autograph, Catalyst Edit, Diamant and Dustbuster+, Final Cut Pro, HitFilm, Motion, Natron, Premiere Pro, Resolve, and Vegas Pro.

RSMB Pro V7 Adds Boost Alpha

RSMB Pro builds on RSMB Regular with additional controls for compositing and VFX workflows, including layering and matte options, 2D shape support in After Effects and Fusion, and point-tracking guidance.

For V7, the key addition is Boost Alpha, an option designed for very large motion blurs.

With very fast movement or a high blur amount, there may not be enough background information around a moving object, which can result in unwanted transparency. Boost Alpha is designed to improve the appearance of those large-blur results.

Additional RSMB Pro hosts include:

Along with the hosts supported by RSMB Regular, RSMB Pro supports:

  • Baselight
  • Flame
  • Fusion Studio
  • Grass Valley Rio
  • Media Composer
  • Mistika
  • Nucoda
  • Nuke
  • Scratch
  • Silhouette

RSMB + Vectors Gets Improved Depth Sorted Motion Blur

RSMB + Vectors uses externally generated motion vectors to create motion blur. In V7, Depth Sorted Motion Blur has been improved for workflows involving fast motion and large occlusions.

The updated processing can also reduce the need for workflows that rely on numerous layers when working with complex motion-vector data.

This option is intended for workflows where motion information is generated outside of RSMB and then used to drive the blur.

Blender Users Can Use MV Convert

RE Effects also provides MV Convert, a free companion plugin for Blender that converts motion vectors into a format compatible with RSMB.

For Blender users working with externally generated motion vectors, MV Convert provides the conversion needed to use that data with RSMB's vector-based motion blur workflow.

What RSMB V7 Brings to Motion Blur Workflows

RSMB V7 focuses on giving users more control when creating motion blur from pixel movement or external motion-vector data.

With RSMB Regular, the new Previous Frame and Next Frame options provide more flexibility for motion analysis. RSMB Pro adds Boost Alpha for very large blurs, while RSMB + Vectors receives improved Depth Sorted Motion Blur for fast motion and large occlusions.

These updates make RSMB V7 particularly relevant to workflows where changing image areas, rapid movement, large blur amounts, or complex vector data can make motion blur more difficult to manage.
