Cinema 4D 2026.4 introduces a built-in Model Context Protocol (MCP) Server, giving compatible AI assistants a way to interact with Cinema 4D through natural-language instructions. The integration can help automate repetitive and procedural tasks while keeping artists in control of their scenes and the changes made to them.
Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open standard that allows AI applications to connect to software through defined tools and actions. In Cinema 4D, the built-in MCP Server allows a compatible AI client to send instructions to the application and work with the open document.
Instead of generating a separate output that has to be imported into a project, supported actions are performed within Cinema 4D. The resulting work remains native Cinema 4D scene data, so artists can review, edit, refine, or undo changes directly in the application.
The Cinema 4D MCP integration is designed for tasks that can involve repetitive or procedural work.
Examples include:
The built-in toolset can also work with objects, materials, layers, Takes, assets, documents, rendering, viewport captures, commands, and undo operations. Some more advanced tasks can use Cinema 4D's Python capabilities when Python execution is enabled.
The MCP Server is designed to work within the artist's existing Cinema 4D workflow.
AI assistants can handle supported technical or repetitive operations, while artists can review the results and continue working on the same scene. MCP-driven changes are also included in Cinema 4D's undo history, making it possible to reverse changes when needed.
The goal is not to replace the artist's role. Instead, MCP can take on routine production tasks so artists can spend more time on modeling, design, animation, composition, and other creative decisions.
The built-in MCP Server is disabled by default and must be enabled by the user.
By default, the server is available only on the computer running Cinema 4D. Remote connections to another machine require separate configuration.
Cinema 4D provides several controls for managing MCP access, including:
Python can provide access to capabilities beyond the standard MCP tools, so it can be enabled separately when required. Maxon also provides additional controls for managing remote access.
The MCP Server is built into Cinema 4D, so there is no separate Cinema 4D MCP Server installation.
To use the integration, you need:
The AI client connects to Cinema 4D through the MCP settings. Cinema 4D provides configuration options for supported clients, while other compatible clients can be configured manually.
The built-in MCP Server is part of the full Cinema 4D application and is not available through Cinema 4D Lite, Commandline, Team Render, c4dpy, or Cineware.
Cinema 4D MCP support is available starting with Cinema 4D 2026.4 on Windows and macOS.
The integration allows artists to connect compatible AI assistants to Cinema 4D without installing a separate MCP server. From scene organization and setup work to other supported production tasks, the new connection adds another way to use AI within the Cinema 4D workflow while keeping the artist in control.
