Krotos Studio has added Natural Disasters, its August 2026 content pack featuring 13 performable sound design presets for earthquakes, avalanches, storms, water, shifting earth and sand, and ice.
Available in the Krotos Studio Library since August 5, Natural Disasters gives sound designers ready-to-use material for building destruction sequences, extreme weather scenes, environmental hazards, and other large-scale effects. Unlike static sound effects, the presets can be performed in real time, allowing users to create different variations from the same source.
The Natural Disasters pack covers four main areas of sound design: seismic events and avalanches, storms and water, earth and sand, and ice.
| Category | Presets | Ideal For |
| Seismic & Avalanches | Wrecking Ball, Earthquake Interior, Rock Avalanche, Snow Avalanche | Destruction, structural damage, earthquakes, and avalanche scenes |
| Storms & Water | Tornado, Big Wave, Typhoon | Extreme weather, storms, and large-scale water movement |
| Earth, Sand & Digging | Rapid Digging, Dirt Dig, Dirt Impact, Sand Flow, Singing Sand Dunes | Terrain movement, excavation, impacts, and desert environments |
| Ice | Ice Pings | Ice cracking, cold environments, and additional avalanche detail |
The first group focuses on heavy movement, impact, collapse, and structural destruction.
Earthquake Interior provides the low, building-shaking rumble that can establish an earthquake scene before objects begin falling or structures start breaking apart. Wrecking Ball adds heavy impact and destruction, while Rock Avalanche and Snow Avalanche provide large-scale moving material for landslide and mountain sequences.
These presets can help establish the weight and scale of a disaster without requiring sound designers to build every effect from individual recordings.
Tornado, Big Wave, and Typhoon bring large-scale weather and water effects into the collection.
They can be used for moments when extreme weather becomes an active part of the scene, such as a tornado approaching a location, a large wave hitting the environment, or a typhoon reaching full intensity.
The pack also covers more physical, close-range environmental sounds with Rapid Digging, Dirt Dig, Dirt Impact, Sand Flow, and Singing Sand Dunes.
These presets can support scenes involving digging, excavation, dirt movement, terrain changes, and shifting sand.
Singing Sand Dunes provides a particularly distinctive environmental sound: the low, resonant tone created by moving sand. It can add an unusual layer of realism to desert and landscape sequences.
The pack's final preset, Ice Pings, adds sharp and brittle ice details.
It can work on its own for cold-weather scenes or be layered with avalanche and snow effects when a sequence needs additional cracking and ice movement.
One of the key features of Natural Disasters is that all 13 presets are performable in real time.
Instead of simply placing a fixed sound effect on a timeline, users can load a preset, press record, and manipulate its XY pads while the sound plays. The movement is captured as a performance, creating a new take from the same preset.
This is particularly useful when the same type of disaster sound appears multiple times in a project.
For example, a sound designer may need several avalanche effects throughout a film or game. By performing Rock Avalanche differently each time, they can create multiple variations that retain the character of the original preset without sounding like the exact same recording repeated throughout the sequence.
This approach can reduce the need to pitch-shift or heavily process a sound simply to make repeated effects less noticeable.
The Natural Disasters presets are already mixed and finished, so they can be incorporated directly into a project.
That makes the collection useful for sound designers who need to build large-scale environmental or destruction effects while maintaining control over how those sounds develop in a scene.

Natural Disasters is available through the Krotos Studio Library for Krotos Studio and Krotos Studio Pro subscribers.
Existing subscribers can access the new content directly through their Library.
If you're new to Krotos Studio, the software also offers a way to explore its performable sound design workflow and experiment with its available sound content.
Natural Disasters expands Krotos Studio's collection with 13 sound design presets built around some of the most challenging effects to recreate convincingly: earthquakes, avalanches, extreme weather, shifting terrain, and ice.
For sound designers working on film, games, animation, or other media projects, the ability to perform these effects in real time provides another way to create variation and match sound to the action on screen.
