Chaos Cosmos Adds AI 3D Model Generation and Search by Image

Chaos Cosmos now includes two AI-powered features for working with 3D assets: AI 3D Model Generation and Search by Image.

AI 3D Model Generation creates a 3D model from a single reference image, while Search by Image helps users find visually similar models and materials in the Cosmos library. Both features are available through the Cosmos Browser.

What's New in Chaos Cosmos?

The latest Cosmos update adds:

AI 3D Model Generation: Create a custom 3D model from a single reference image.
Search by Image: Upload an image to find visually similar models and materials.
Image cropping: Focus an image search on a specific object or area.
Image and text search: Combine a reference image with a text prompt to refine search results.

The two features provide different ways to work with assets in Cosmos: find an existing asset using a visual reference or generate a new model from an image.

AI 3D Model Generation in Chaos Cosmos

AI 3D Model Generation is currently available in beta. It allows users to upload a single reference image and generate a 3D model directly in the Cosmos Browser.

Generated assets can be used in V-Ray, Corona, Vantage, and Envision. Chaos also states that support for Enscape is coming soon.

Two AI models are currently available:

Tencent HY 3D: Designed for more detailed 3D models when visual quality is the priority.
Microsoft TRELLIS.2: Designed for faster generation and suitable for objects that are not the main focal point of a scene.

Chaos says the feature is in early beta and that feedback is being collected to improve the experience and results.

How to Generate a 3D Model from an Image

Update Chaos Cosmos to the latest version.
Open the Cosmos Browser from your host application's menu.
Open the AI Assets Generator and select Generate.
Upload, drag and drop, or paste your reference image.
Select Tencent HY 3D or Microsoft TRELLIS.2.
Configure the available generation settings.
Select Generate.

After generation, the model can be inspected in the AI Assets Generator's interactive 3D viewer. Users can rotate the model, preview its geometry, and inspect the wireframe.

When the model is ready, download it to convert it to the Cosmos format and save it alongside other Cosmos assets. AI-generated models are available from the AI Generated card on the Cosmos home page or under Downloaded > 3D Models > AI-Generated.

AI 3D Model Generation Settings

Cosmos provides several settings for controlling the generated model:

Preset

Provides a quick way to configure quality and speed. The available options are Draft, Medium (default), and High. Each preset combines the Resolution, Polycount, and Texture Resolution settings.

Resolution

Controls the voxel grid density used to build the model's shape. Higher values can capture finer details but take longer to process.

Polycount

Controls the polygon count of the exported mesh. Chaos notes that this primarily affects file size; increasing Resolution is the setting to use when more geometric detail is needed.

Texture Resolution

Controls the size of the final textures.

Shape Fidelity (Experimental)

Controls how closely the generated geometry follows the reference image. Lower values simplify smaller details, while higher values follow the reference more closely but may introduce unwanted detail.

Search by Image in Chaos Cosmos

Search by Image provides another way to find assets in the Cosmos library.

Instead of relying only on keywords, users can upload a reference image and search for visually similar models and materials. The image can also be cropped to focus on a specific object or area.

Users can further refine the results by combining the image with a text prompt.

Reference images can include:

Individual 3D objects
Materials and surfaces
Furniture and decorative elements
Product references
Complete interior scenes

Cosmos analyzes the visual reference and returns assets based on visual characteristics such as the object, material, or overall appearance.

How to Search for Assets Using an Image

Open the Cosmos Browser.
Select Search by Image.
Upload a reference image.
Crop the image if you want to focus on a specific object or area.
Browse the visually similar asset suggestions.
Add a text prompt to further refine the results.

Search by Image vs. AI 3D Model Generation

The two features serve different purposes:

Feature	Purpose
Search by Image	Finds visually similar models and materials that already exist in the Cosmos library
AI 3D Model Generation	Creates a new 3D model from a single reference image.

This allows users to first search the Cosmos library for an existing asset and then use AI 3D Model Generation when a suitable asset is not available.

Chaos Cosmos AI Features: Availability

AI 3D Model Generation is currently in beta. During the beta period, Chaos states that the feature is free to use and does not consume Chaos Credits.

How to Provide Feedback

Chaos is accepting feedback on AI 3D Model Generation through the Chaos Forum. Users can also rate generated models directly after creating or downloading them.

Downloaded AI-generated models can be found under:

Downloaded > 3D Models > AI-Generated

Select the star icon in the upper-right corner of a generated model to open the feedback form.
