If you are experiencing installation issues with your 3ds Max Subscription or other Autodesk software, follow the troubleshooting guide below.
Issue
When trying to install Autodesk software, you may encounter the following error message:
Autodesk InstallAn error occurred while preparing the installation. Please try again or contact Autodesk Support.

Possible Causes
- Unstable or weak internet connection.
- Corrupted ODIS (Autodesk On-Demand Install Service) installation.
- Antivirus, firewall, or proxy blocking ODIS from accessing the internet.
Solutions
Try the following methods to resolve the installation error.
1. Update Autodesk Licensing Service
Install the latest version of the Autodesk Licensing Service before reinstalling the software.
2. Remove a Potentially Corrupted ODIS Installation
- Go to
C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AdODIS\V1.
- Run
RemoveODIS.exe as Administrator.
- Download the Autodesk software again using one of these methods:
- Run the newly downloaded installer.
3. Prevent ODIS from Auto-Updating During Installation
By default, all 2022+ Autodesk installers attempt to update ODIS before installation. If the update fails, installation may not start. To bypass this, use the steps below:
- Search for cmd in the Windows Start menu.
- Right-click and select Run as Administrator to open Command Prompt.
- Navigate to the software installer folder. For example, for AutoCAD 2022 use:
cd C:\Autodesk\AutoCAD_2022_English_Win_64bit_dlm\
- Run the setup with the
--noupdate parameter:
Setup.exe --noupdate
Next Steps if the Issue Persists
If the problem continues after applying the above fixes, review your installation log file to identify the failure point. See Autodesk’s guide on How to identify an installation failure point in Setup.log file.
Tip: Always make sure your internet connection is stable and temporarily disable antivirus or firewall software during installation if they are interfering with the process.
