Chaos Scans Now Easier to Import in 3ds Max & Cinema 4D Chaos Scans Now Easier to Import in 3ds Max & Cinema 4D

A powerful update to Chaos Cosmos now makes it effortless to add hyper-realistic Chaos Scan materials directly into your 3ds Max or Cinema 4D scenes. Whether you're working on interiors, product renders, or detailed assets, the new workflow streamlines access to unmatched realism—no complex setup needed.

What Are Chaos Scans?

Chaos Scans are ultra-precise digital materials created by scanning real-world surfaces. The result:

  • Accurate diffuse and reflection behavior
  • Unique micro-detail and angle-dependent effects
  • Real-world authenticity you can’t replicate manually

These are ideal for complex surfaces like holograms, foils, velvet, leather, and more.

New Seamless Workflow

Now available directly through Chaos Cosmos, you can easily browse, download, and import Chaos Scan materials in just a few clicks:

  1. Open Cosmos Browser in 3ds Max or Cinema 4D
  2. Browse or filter by "Chaos Scans"
  3. Download the material (they're large, so give it a second)
  4. Import and apply:
    • If an object is selected, it’s applied instantly
    • If not, it lands in your Material Editor

For Cinema 4D, the same exact steps apply.

Extra Features You Can Leverage

  • Two-sided functionality: Material is visible from both front and back faces
  • Triplanar mapping: No need to manually unwrap UVs—just plug and play
  • Holographic & foil shaders: Materials that react to view angles and lighting

You can now build complex, reflective, or refractive materials in seconds—previously impossible to achieve manually with this level of accuracy.
