What Is New in Media Composer 2026.8?

Media Composer 2026.8 expands collaboration while adding several practical editorial improvements.

PhraseFindAI Multicam Auto Cut uses speaker information and speech boundaries to help create multicam edits. Editors can then refine the generated cuts within Media Composer.

Transcript Tools adds capabilities such as reverting transcript edits, splitting segments, and continuous viewer playback, giving editors more control when working with transcripts.

The OpenTimelineIO 2.0 Adapter has also been updated to improve timeline round-tripping with third-party applications. This can help teams move editorial information between different tools with less manual reconstruction.

Other updates include improved bin searching, audio track swapping from subclips, Titler+ keyframe corrections, and expanded APIs for automation and integration.

AI-Assisted Editing and “Agentic” Workflows

Avid will use IBC 2026 to demonstrate Ready to Edit, an upcoming capability designed to automate parts of content preparation before editing begins.

Avid describes its approach as agentic workflow intelligence. Rather than using AI only for individual tasks, the goal is to help automate and coordinate parts of the production process while keeping editorial decisions with the editor.

Avid will also demonstrate embedded AI capabilities through a Google Gemini panel as part of its broader connected editorial workflow.

Avid Content Core Comes Closer to Media Composer

Avid will showcase deeper integration between Media Composer and Avid Content Core at IBC 2026.

The planned integration allows editors to access and search content from the wider media environment through a Content Core panel inside Media Composer. Avid will also demonstrate publishing Content Core assets directly from Media Composer.

This brings media management and editorial work closer together, reducing the need to switch between separate applications for certain content-related tasks.

Browser-Based Editing Preview

Avid will also preview its direction for browser-based Media Composer workflows.

The initial experience will be built around web-based editing capabilities within Avid Content Core. The browser workflow is intended to complement desktop Media Composer by supporting tasks such as content review and preparation before more advanced editing takes place on the desktop.
