FilmConvert Halation is a standalone plugin for Adobe After Effects and Premiere Pro that adds the warm red glow seen around bright areas of footage shot on film, without requiring any other FilmConvert product.
On film, light passing through the emulsion reflects off the anti-halation backing and returns to the red channel, producing a soft red glow that is most visible around lamps, headlights and neon signs. Halation places this effect where it would naturally occur rather than applying a uniform overlay across the frame.
Controls are intuitive enough for editors at any experience level, with sensible defaults that can be fully customized, and playback and render speeds stay quick with the effect enabled.
As a standalone plugin, Halation supports color managed workflows by letting you select the input gamma of your footage, including ACES, Linear, DWG and HDR.
